I have over 20 years experience working at a senior level for the food division of the Co-operative Group. My experience includes management positions in both operations and sales development and I have extensive field-based knowledge of managing and coaching multi-site retail teams For the last five years I have been employed as a Regional Sales Development Manager. This role enabled me to focus on specific retail projects and major change programs aimed at supporting the strategic aims of the Co-operative group. Working closely with colleagues in the marketing department, I was also responsible for the development of the regional sales and marketing plan. This gave me a direct opportunity build a good understanding of the specific needs of the co-operatives customers. This knowledge enabled me to fully exploit local initiatives and sales opportunities. Before this appointment, I spent 15 years in a senior operations role managing a variety of types of stores developing a good understanding of the problems faced by retail managers and how to overcome them. The success of these roles required a high degree of collaboration with other regional and head office colleagues at varying levels of seniority and the ability to communicate, coach and inspire store managers and colleagues. In addition to my professional development I have also enhanced my academic knowledge through an MBA qualification at Exeter University which was completed in 2009. This has given me a wider appreciation of how organizations operate and of the requirement of different functional departments to work collectively. I am currently researching a PhD on the service experience and how this can build customer loyalty. This has provide me with a more informed viewpoint and an additional insight into how store operations can impact on the customer, including the importance of store colleague engagement on the overall quality of the service delivered.
